Michael entered the world of racing after leaving school, working and riding as an apprentice & then a fully trained jockey across the UK. He rode in excess of 300 winners including ones in India, Jamaica, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.
On retiring from racing he took racehorses in for rest and recuperation, post operative care, breaking and pre training. One of his main clients was Mark Johnston for whom he took many horses prior to Mark’s facilities been expanded enabling him to manage everything in house.
A progression into Stud work came when taking on the lease of the Garrowby Stud on the Earl of Halifax’s estate. Over the next 12 years the foaling of mares, rearing of foals and preparing yearlings for major Bloodstock Sales have all been added to his portfolio.
Michael has extensive knowledge of the Bloodstock industry as well as land management. He’s very hands on and a team player, treats every horse as an individual and strives for the best possible outcome for the horse and its owner.
Liz is from a racing and farming family having had an uncle who was a successful trainer before retiring. She rode from an early age and enjoyed eventing and hunting before starting a family. Liz has always worked closely with Michael more helping with the foaling of the mares, daily running of the office, and maintaining Veterinary records.
